Reddit marketing

Reddit marketing for small businesses, without getting banned

Every day people ask Reddit which product to buy, which contractor to hire or which tool to use. Those threads are full of buyers. They're also full of people who can spot a sales pitch instantly.

Read the rules first

Every subreddit has its own rules, and many ban self-promotion entirely. Read them before you post anything. If a community doesn't allow promotion, don't promote there.

Use a transparent account

Post as your business, or as yourself and say where you work. Pretending to be a happy customer is the fastest way to get banned and to damage your reputation.

Be useful first

Answer the question that was asked, fully, even if the answer doesn't involve you. Mention your business only when it's genuinely relevant, and say why.

Find the right conversations

The value is in recommendation requests and buying questions in your category or city. Monitoring tools help you find them quickly; the reply should still come from a person.

Measure what matters

Track referral traffic and enquiries from Reddit, not upvotes. A few helpful replies in the right threads can bring in more business than a viral post.
